watch this space

if you want to find a way to kill time, sign up for facebook to keep track of your friends' thoughts, photos, videos, links, whatever. and if you want to kill even more time, sign up for twitter so that you can stalk everyone else in cyberspace...

i joined facebook over a year ago, and while i can say that it's been a great source of event information for me -- and this blog -- it's also been a great distraction. i found myself blogging less and less; because i was so busy checking on people, i never seemed to have time to write. or even time to THINK about what i wanted to write. then last march, i joined the twitterverse. and then things got even worse... witness the fact that i had NO event calendar for april. and while the month of may was a bit better, i only sent out the info in dribs and drabs.

it's time to get back to business!

so with my extremely distracted attention span, i'm going to try to get back on track for june. what you see here is what i've gathered so far. and i'll keep hunting and gathering... as time permits :)

so keep watching this space for updates!

by the way, many of these events will be held at the new bhakti yoga shala in santa monica. it's located at 207 arizona avenue, at the corner of arizona and 2nd (in the courtyard behind the lighthouse restaurant).

Sivan's Story ~
Sivan, one of Yummy's yogis, is having a risk-reducing mastectomy at the end of June in order to prevent breast cancer. She's only 27, but doctors have recommended she have this surgery after learning of inheriting the BRCA 1 gene mutation from her mother. Sivan's Aunt Linda died of metastasized breast cancer at age 49, leaving behind two sons. Sivan's grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer around that time. As it turned out, Sivan's grandmother had passed down the gene. Sivan's Aunt is unknowingly responsible for saving the lives of the women in her family, including Sivan's mother, who underwent preventative surgery when she learned of her gene diagnosis.
Sivan and her friends are making a film to document her surgery and recovery, and to educate viewers regarding new research in hereditary cancers for both men and women. Additionally, with her film, Sivan will bravely show women that this surgery can provide them with peace of mind, beautiful cosmetic results, courage, and a sense of true empowerment. We hope you can join us in support of not only the cause, but also a fellow member of the YUMMY community!

A Free Screening at Golden Bridge Yoga: "Invisible Children"
Golden Bridge Yoga, Hollywood
Tuesday, June 16th 7:00pm
Cost: FREE, Donations appreciated

Can a story change the world? In the spring of 2003, three young Americans traveled to Africa in search of such a story. What they found was a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them. A story where children are the weapons and the victims. The “Invisible Children: Rough Cut” film exposes the effects of a 20-year-long war on the children of Northern Uganda. Children who live in fear of abduction by rebel soldiers, and are being forced to fight as part of a violent army. This wonderfully reckless documentary is fast paced, with an MTV beat, and is truly unique. To see Africa through young eyes is humorous and heart breaking, quick and informative - all in the same breath. See this film, you will be forever changed.
The screening is free; donations are greatly appreciated with 100% of proceeds going to the Invisible Children Inc. to provide health, safety and education for the children of Northern Uganda who are affected by this 20-year-long war.

Thank you so much for your update and lists about fitness and yoga classes. I love exercising! It just makes you feel so great afterward even though it's very exhausting sometimes. It makes me feel normal so I don't feel like I'm going through hypnotherapy!

I agree with you a 100%. Facebook has drastically changed my work performance too. I've been hooked to it for the past 8 months and though I'd like to stay away from it, I just couldn't fight the urge to check on my friends updates. I suppose it is the yearning to connect with people that kicks in. I think facebook is making me social in an antisocial way. :)

Thanks for putting together the list of all the yoga classes. I've practiced a form of Tibetan Yoga for years. Surprisingly I found that using self hypnosis while doing yoga helped me achieve a level of relaxation that was amazing. I recommend the combination to everyone.
