setting new intentions

the new year is upon us, and it's time to start fresh with new plans, new goals, new habits. since most of january's events focus on getting rid of the old and making way for the new, they'll probably tie in quite nicely with all your new year's resolutions :)

yoga day USA will be observed this year on saturday, january 24th. according to the event website,

Join thousands across the country for Yoga Day USA, a history-making celebration where yogis, novices, couch potatoes and triathletes, young, old and everyone in between join together to stretch mind, body and spirit through the practice of yoga.

In the spirit of karma yoga, or service to others, all Yoga Day USA classes and workshops are free — or nearly free. The brainchild of the Yoga Alliance, this powerful annual event is held in yoga studios, parks, beaches and private homes throughout the US."

considering that LA is yoga central, i'm a bit surprised that i haven't heard of many local events. i've listed what i've found so far and will continue to check around.

by the way, there's a new lululemon store in brentwood at the corner of san vicente and montana. and just like all the other lulu stores, they're offering FREE in-store yoga!

i'll keep updating this list; keep checking back...

In this workshop we will learn how to use our obstacles for the process of breaking through them. What would you like to break through this year, in your life?
Maybe a habit or a pattern? Maybe something you wish to overcome, somewhere you feel stuck, something you want to manifest? What pose/poses do you wish to break through?
Please bring a pose you may be struggling with, or even a class of poses you find challenging. Bring an open mind and heart, and the willingness to play with possibilities.

The Farmers Rehabilitation Project began in response to the desperate situation many farmers are facing in India. Due to the change in climate and conditions crop failure is rising while farmers are turning to suicide in response. As a result, many children are left without a means to continue their education. This is where Amma stepped in to offer scholarships to 100,000 orphans of the suicide farmers. Also in response to this growing problem Amma has started educating the farmers and offering alternatives to suicide as well as providing free vocational training for the women affected.
Mother's Kitchen in LA focuses on feeding the homeless in Santa Monica. In a team effort with HOPE (Helping Other People Eat), Mother's Kitchen feed the homeless in Santa Monica on a weekly basis.
