happy 90th guru-ji!

i recently received an invite to a birthday party that's coming up in a couple of weeks. although i've never met the celebrant, i've definitely heard of him -- BKS iyengar, founder of the iyengar method of yoga, will be turning 90 next month. and to mark this awesome milestone, the iyengar community will be doing 108 sun salutations on december 14th at the crack of dawn at their new location on la cienega.

here's the invitation:

Guruji (B.K.S. Iyengar) turns 90 on Sunday, December 14.
Help us celebrate 90 glorious years with 108 Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) and chanting at the institute.

In Geeta Iyengar's words: "The sun-salutation is a part of daily religious prayer, which comes from time immemorial. Every one, along with offerings and prayers, saluted the sun, since Surya, the Sun God has a tremendous solar energy, which is a vital need for mankind."

Guruji's work has had an impact on nearly everyone practicing yoga in the world today - come help us celebrate his tremendous contributions to our lives!
