gentle healing for cancer survivors

aware of my obsession with all things yoga, my friend stan recently forwarded to me an email from tabby biddle, a yoga teacher who runs with his pace group on saturday mornings.

it went something like this:

Please pass the word that I am looking for new yoga clients, either one-on-one or small to medium-sized groups. I do housecalls not only to homes, but also to workplaces, schools, churches, temples, etc. I tailor the practice specifically for the client(s) to bring them the most benefit. I teach everything from Power Yoga to Gentle Healing Yoga and everything in between. Please visit my website, www.tabbybiddleyoga.com, to learn more and book a session for yourself, your friend, your spouse, your colleague, or anyone else who needs some stress relief and tools for healthy, happy living!

i emailed tabby back to get more information about her classes, and she replied: "Most of my classes are private right now. I do teach a Women's Gentle Healing yoga class for women living with cancer or survivors of cancer at the Wilshire Temple on the corner of Olympic and Barrington Wednesdays at 7pm. The class is free and is sponsored by LA TEAM SURVIVOR."

since that ties in with this month's breast cancer awareness theme, i tracked down the team survivor website and found out that they offer a number of FREE yoga classes for women living with cancer at various locations around town, in both LA and orange counties.

in addition to gentle yoga classes, they also teach lying down & letting go classes, where "Both mind and body are exercised equally, using a very gentle, but thorough routine that takes from both Western and Eastern disciplines. Designed specifically for women who are in treatment or have recently completed treatment for cancer, these classes provide a routine that enhances the flow of energy while building strength, endurance and flexibility. All fitness levels are welcome."

so if you or someone you know is interested in taking a class to help regain and maintain health and well-being, pick a class from the list below, then call (310) 477-8557 to register. and don't forget to bring a mat and/or towel and water with you to class!

hi hilary --

thanks for passing along that tidbit of information! i checked www.wespark.org and found this description for the laughter yoga class:

Laughter is the best medicine. People all over the world are experiencing the healing effects of laughter through laughter yoga, the brainchild of Dr. Madan Kataria from Mumbai. Laughter helps us keep healthy by enriching the blood with ample supplies of oxygen, remove the negative effects of stress, acts as a pain killer and boosts the immune system. Laughter is also anti-aging. Laughing contractions tone facial muscles and expressions.
