because everyone loves a contest!
to celebrate the fact that i now have a new map on my site AND that i'm about to hit 1000 fans* on my facebook page, i've decided to give something away to one lucky follower! and that follower could be YOU!!
* i know, a thousand fans is a piddly number compared to such power houses such as yoga journal with almost 24,000 facebook fans and elephant journal with just over 11,000 fans, but hey, it makes me feel wanted :)
of course, you might have to do a bit of research to win, but here's something that should get your brain in gear... i'm giving away the new eQua hot yoga towel from manduka, with a retail value of $55!!
here's more information about this cool prize -- which should help keep you cool and dry during your hot yoga practice:
For those that prefer their yoga hot, the eQua Hot Yoga Towel is the ultimate solution to sweat management—allowing the user to perfect their poses instead of dealing with a perspiring distraction from their practice.
Developed in response to the common problem of excessive puddling during a sweaty yoga session, the Hot Yoga Towel is created with ultra soft, double knit microfiber—that remains super gentle on the skin but tough against toxins. Outperforming ordinary cotton or polyester towels, when spread over the yoga mat the Hot Yoga Towel forms a plush, sweat-trapping barrier and slip-resistant, hygienic foundation—absorbing the maximum amount of moisture while keeping yogi’s mat clean and dry.
"We know how distracting perspiration can be during a high intensity yoga session," said Manduka CEO, Sky Meltzer. “So to assist the yogis that are heating up their practice, we wanted to offer a high quality product that allows the user to enjoy their practice without the diversion of slipping and sliding on their mat. The eQua Hot Yoga Towel is the perfect solution—not only is it super absorbent, but it also provides a hygienic barrier—keeping bacteria away from the user and off their mat."
Made to fit most yoga mats and user styles, the Manduka eQua Hot Yoga Towel is 72" x 26.5" and is available in Candy (pink), Olive (green) and Scuba (blue). Able to withstand countless washings, the eQua Hot Yoga Towel is both machine washable and dryable — sweat it out, toss it in the wash and start your practice all over again. Whether you glow, perspire, sweat or seep—Manduka’s eQua Hot Yoga towel has your mat and your mind covered.
Like all of the towels in the Manduka eQua Towel collection, the Hot Yoga Towel is created according to fair labor production standards. For more information, please visit: http://www.manduka.com/or become a facebook fan at: www.facebook.com/manduka.
so here are the contest rules:
1. after taking a close look at my LA yoga studio map (click here to get the larger version), post a comment below, giving me the name of ONE yoga studio that is NOT on the map (and i know there's a bunch of them, so this isn't a trick question) as well as its address, phone number, and website address. oh, and the color of the manduka eQua towel you'd like (pink, green, or blue), if you win!
2. the yoga studio has to be within the LA county limits and must offer group yoga classes on a regularly-scheduled basis.
3. even if a location offers a slew of yoga classes, as long as it requires membership to take a class -- as in a gym, health club, or fitness center -- i'm going to have to exclude it. community centers and function halls are also excluded. for the most part, i'm going to have to exclude private homes, unless they have websites and drop-in yoga class schedules posted on those websites.
4. and here's the kicker: the location has to be a studio that hasn't been mentioned by anyone else (in other words, only the first person to mention it gets entered in the contest).
5. only ONE entry is allowed per person. so if you know of more than one studio, you'll have to get a friend to send in an entry for you... and both of you will have to work out who gets the prize if your friend wins :)
6. lastly, you must be a fan of the accidental yogist on facebook in order to win!
one thing i should point out is that all you'll need to do is TELL me about the place; please DO NOT update the map!
by the way, if you come up with a studio that i've been to but have forgotten to put on the map, you will definitely earn yourself a shout-out :)
i'll give all of you until next friday, march 12th, to come up with a whole bunch of nice places for me to check out and add to the map. i'll randomly draw the winner from the eligible comments that come in, so if you're the only one who responds correctly, guess what -- you automatically win!
good luck!

hi tina bhakti mama!
yay for being the first one to come up with a place i've never heard of (or maybe i did eons ago, but completely forgot about)! go figure, a yoga studio named "yoga studio"...
what's their website, btw? you'll need to give that to me, too :)
Hi there,
I found this that I don't see on your list after searching and verifying a few times. Crossing fingers and toes, here we go:

hi farnoosh --
good catch! i've actually been there, so it should've been on my map... the heat in the room must've fried my brain and i forgot to add it :(
anyway, you're definitely in the running for that GREEN yoga mat towel!!!
thanks for playing :)
Hi Joni,
Sweet! I can't believe I found a needle in that haystack of your Google map! :) Between us, I don't do hot yoga (I tried it 3 times) and power yoga in 85 degree room serves me much better. Plus I'd miss downdog to bits ;)!
tina -- thanks! and now that you've given me their website, you're in the running for a BLUE yoga mat towel!! as for your being in montrose, i'll have to ask you about that the next time i see you :)
yeah, i'm not a fan of extremely hot yoga, either. but i consider it a step along my yoga education, so i do it when i feel like shaking up my practice.
and isn't it puzzling that of the 26 poses bikram included in his sequence, he didn't think downward-facing dog merited a spot, while almost all hatha yoga practitioners do it many, many times during the course of their practice?

hi ofir --
you obviously read my clue about it being mentioned in the LA yoga magazine :) yes, that's the one!
now to see how many more entries come in. good luck!
sorry, lauren, but SM power yoga east is already on my map. in fact, it's listed almost at the top of the yoga studio list to the left of the map... find another one NOT on the map; it really isn't that hard :)
hi bee --
ding, ding, ding! i've never heard of yoga cove... not to say it doesn't exist :)
sounds like i'll need to drive out to monrovia to check it out. ok, now i need more people to come up with more studios nearby so i can justify the gas to get there!!
hi annie --
yes, greenleaf yoga has been on my to-do list for a looooong time now! i just have to find the time to drive all the way out there :( too bad it isn't near monrovia (see the studio bee mentioned).
you're in! thanks for playing!
hi lau --
wow. never heard of 304 power yoga! sounds like it's in downtown LA... do you have their website? you'll need to give that to me in order to be eligible to win :)

hey BDB --
argh!! i can't believe i forgot to add peace yoga to my map... and you know i've been there!! :(
fine... you officially have a chance to win a yoga mat towel for those sweaty power yoga classes you love so much...
Here's another:
Beyond Physical Therapy
2903 W. Washington Blvd.
Marina Del Rey, CA 90291
310-578-5960
www.beyond-pt.com
Green!
Also, you left out Fred Segal Yoga which you've visited.
hi belle --
beyond physical therapy isn't really a yoga studio, at least i'm not considering it one because it offers only 3 yoga classes a week, with the majority of the other classes being pilates.
as for preece and toff (aka fred segal yoga), i haven't added them because they don't have a website with any kind of useful information in it. in fact, i hesitated including them in my blog entry only because every time i called them about class schedules, the front desk person seemed to have no clue :(
i thought that by mentioning them, maybe they would get their act together. but it doesn't look like they did. so they're staying off my map for now.
so do you have any other studio you can suggest? :)
My name is Sarah Calandro.
My friend from teacher training recently opened this studio and a few of my former teacher trainees teach there. It's a very nice, cozy studio at Rosecrans and Highland in Manhattan Beach.
The Green Yogi
3504 Highland Ave.
Manhattan Beach, CA 90266

www.thegreenyogi.com
I'd like a blue towel please!
hi sarah --
oops... i got caught snoozing on my yoga mat once again :(
yes, i've been to the green yogi -- which is a very beautiful space, by the way -- and forgot to add it to my map!
you're in... thanks and good luck!
hi again belle!
i went to fred segal yoga one more time to see if things have changed. and the schedule has gone from a promising 3 classes per DAY when i was first there to just 3 classes per WEEK! :( their problem seems to be that they don't spend any time at all promoting their studio. in fact, the ONE teacher who teaches all three classes basically has to do his own self-promotion. but since the classes only cost $10, i'll go ahead and add the studio to my map. which means you're in! :)
let's hope that now that the studio's on the map, yogis will consider stopping by. we'll see...
http://www.304poweryoga.com/
thanks, lauren, for the update! you're the tenth person eligible to win!! yay!
No winner announced yet? :) You are keeping us in suspense.....
i guess i've been partying too hard over the weekend... and assumed everyone was doing the same :)
LoL! Yoginis party? :)!
Just kidding......good for you........and happy spring! I'll check back later.
since i know some of those who responded, i asked a totally impartial friend to draw the name of the winner...
and the lucky person who just won herself a new manduka hot yoga towel is becky h!! congratulations!
