santa monica loses another yoga studio

back in mid-october, home simply yoga closed its doors with minimal fanfare. no mention was made on their facebook page, their website, or even via email. besides my being told of the closure by a few teachers on staff at the studio, the only evidence of its having closed its doors was the fact that their online class schedule didn't list any classes past october 17th. considering that HSY was one of the first eco-conscious yoga studios to open up in town, it was upsetting to find out that gary and melissa margolin had decided to shut it down.

sadly, another yoga studio in santa monica will be shutting down before the end of the year. i just received a message from arvind chittumalla of aanand saagar earlier this evening; please note that he's only referring to the santa monica location, NOT the one in venice. here's what his email said:

Hello all,

It is with great sadness that I am shutting down the Santa Monica studio. I have thought about this a number of times in the last 3 months. There was always a glimpse of hope that kept me going but it is not viable anymore for me to pour more money into this center. I have also been getting strong messages these last few days that it may be better to shut down the Santa Monica space and direct my attention towards my Venice center, Moksha and YogiLoka. I am planning for December 25th to be the last day for the Santa Monica space.

I will try to move all the classes/workshops from the Santa Monica space to the Venice space wherever possible. I am also going to restart teaching meditation at the Venice studio. I'll be moving my Sanskrit classes and chanting circles also to the Venice location beginning next week.

I look forward to seeing you at the Venice center.

Namaste
Arvind

you may have noticed that arvind mentions how he'll be focusing his attention on moksha -- it's a two-day wellness festival that will feature yoga, ayurveda, and kirtan. it'll be held at the broad stage in santa monica on august 13th and 14th. the schedule specifics are still being fleshed out, but so far, jai uttal and donna de lory are listed as kirtan headliners.

there are many ticket options -- from workshop- or kirtan-only day passes to all-inclusive weekend passes. more information about festival events and ticketing can be found here: moksha festival.
